The botanist and curator of the Garden, Evi Matiatou, together with Mrs. Harikleia Palatza-Tzaki, an experienced collector, organize a three-hour experiential workshop in the field for the identification of wild greens. This is followed by their cleaning, cooking and a very delicious and healthy meal.
The Cephalonia Botanica and the Krousia Botanical Garden co-organized a five-day seminar in March 2023 titled “Aromatic and Medicinal Plants”. The scientific coordinator of the seminar was Dr. Eleni Maloupa, Director of the Institute of Genetic Improvement and Plant Genetic Resources at ELGO-DIMITRA, who became widely known through her successful show on ERT3, "Herbs, Fruits of the Earth."
As usual in the Botanical Garden's seminars, apart from theoretical instruction, emphasis was also given on practical education with three workshops: In the first, participants had the opportunity to cook using selected aromatic and medicinal plants. In the second, there was a tasting of beverages, and in the third, at the Botanical Garden, participants learned the propagation of aromatic plants through cuttings and seeds.
The Focas-Cosmetatos Foundation and the non-profit urban company Hippocrates for Life successfully co-organized actions under the title "Medicinal Plants from Hippocrates to Today" in May 2022. The event began on Saturday, May 7, with a seminar and presentations by Mrs. Eleni Skaltsa, Professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; Mr. Grigorios Tsoukalas, Associate Professor at the Medical School of Crete; and Dr. Irini Vallianatou, Biologist. At the same time, an Art Exhibition inspired by plants mentioned by Hippocrates and Dioscorides took place at the Municipal Theater "Kefalos", showcasing works from the large collection of Hippocrates for Life. Finally, Dr. Irini Vallianatou and Evi Matiatou guided the public through the village of old Valsamata and the Cephalonia Botanica on a botanical tour focusing on the myths and traditions surrounding our plants.

On the first day, participants attended the theoretical part in a classroom provided by the Department of Food Technology at the Ionian University. This was followed by an all-day practical session in mountainous areas of the island to identify and collect wild mushrooms.

The theoretical part of the seminar was held at the Focas-Cosmetatos Foundation. A tour of the Cephalonia Botanica followed, led by Dr. Argyris Gerakis and Evi Matiatou, where participants had the chance to explore the rich biodiversity of orchids in the Garden.
