The Seed Bank for Endemic, Rare, and Threatened species is maintained at -22°C and focuses on plants with small populations, such as Arenaria leucadia, Silene cephallenia ssp. cephallenia, Campanula garganica ssp. cephallenia, Stachys ionica, and Silene ionica. The small quantities of seeds stored were collected during botanical expeditions in accordance with protocols and permissions from the Ministry and relevant authorities.
Our Seed Bank program is run in collaboration with the Institute of Genetic Improvement and Plant Genetic Resources of ELGO-DIMITRA and its Director, Dr. Eleni Maloupa, as well as with the scientific team of the Millennium Seed Bank at Kew Gardens.
