This book presents the edible wild greens traditionally gathered on Kefalonia. This knowledge has been handed down from one generation to the next and is still an integral part of daily life in the villages. Classic cooking methods, such as boiling, sautéing, and making into pies, are also included. The photographs and information provided serve as a field guide and are an important resource for those interested in foraging for these plants.
This book aims to help document and preserve this important practice. At the same time, the identification and scientific naming of the plants provide an ethnobotanical study that enriches the global knowledge of edible plant species.
Plant selection and texts were edited by Evi Matiatou.
Renown photographer, Melita Vaggelatou, recorded images of the Cephalonia Botanica through different seasons and at different times of day.
She generously donated this treasure of photographs to the Focas-Cosmetatos Foundation and we, in turn, share this album with you.
This book presents 70 of the approximately 300 plant species found in the Cephalonia Botanica, with special historical, mythological or medicinal significance.
