The primary purpose of a Botanical Garden is the ex situ protection of plants.
Our mission at the Cephalonia Botanica is to communicate to the wider public the direct connection and dependence between plants and humans, as well as the vital importance of preserving diversity, primarily in its natural habitat.
In the Garden we maintain a small, unique collection of endemic and rare species from the wider phytogeographical region of the Ionian Islands. The living collections, Seed Bank and Herbarium of the Garden, are enriched every year through our botanical expeditions in the Ionian.
