In 2006, a research program was implemented under the leadership of Ms. Nopi Parcharidou and taxonomist Dr. Nikolaos Krigas. The program focused on the documentation and identification of species growing within the environment of the Cephalonia Botanica. The plants that were collected formed the basis for the creation of the Herbarium. Today, the collection of dried plants is maintained in a special corner of the Garden, and new species are added every year. With the scientific support and expertise of the Flora Ionica Project team from the Department of Botany at the University of Vienna, the collection has been digitized and is hosted on the global Herbarium platform ‘Virtual Herbaria’
